NIVA Statement on Ticketing Executive Order and Congressional Ticketing Legislation
The federal Executive Order (EO) on “Combating Unfair Practices in the Live Entertainment Market,” if executed as written, could be a significant step forward that would help independent stages address predatory ticketing sales, excessive secondary market fees, deceptive practices in ticket resale, and the Live Nation monopoly.
In particular, if the FTC begins enforcing the BOTS Act of 2016 pursuant to the EO, it would help cut down on the unlawful taking of face value tickets from fans by predatory brokers.
The EO is an improvement on the pending ticket legislation, and should open the door to allow artists and independent venues & promoters to have their voices heard in Congress and reflected in ticketing legislation.
